Capricorn Lunar Eclipse

This year’s Capricorn Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse. Remember that even if we can’t see an Eclipse in the sky, these celestial events are potent harbingers of illumination in our lives. Things may seem as if they are coming to fruition as we may be sensing that we are experiencing the outcome of steps previously taken.

This is the third of three recent Eclipses: we had a Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse on June 5 and a Cancer Solar Eclipse on June 21. The next Eclipse series will occur in November and December.

During a Capricorn Lunar Eclipse, issues of security are brought to the forefront. It urges us to look at our life through the lens of the questions, “Where do I feel at home?” and “How can I feel more safe and protected regardless of where I am?” In pure Capricorn fashion, these aren’t light-hearted questions, but they are ones whose answers can provide us with the riches of insight to live a more integrated and productive life.

What’s also highlighted during this Lunar Eclipse is the importance of maintaining a balanced sense of perspective. Cancer inspires us to both feel as well as value our feelings. It has flowing, soft, and undulating energy. Capricorn, on the other hand, is not focused on feelings but rather on diligent and responsible approaches to accomplishing tangible outcomes. The question becomes how the nurturer (Cancer) and the achiever (Capricorn) can co-exist.

One way it can be done is that instead of wallowing in our emotions, we take a serious look at them, inventorying what they may be revealing. Once insights are gleaned, see what practical ways you take action to structure facets of your life so that they will further nourish you. Also, with this lunation, we are reminded that while the past is essential, it’s important not to get stuck in it. What came before may be an integral part of who you are but don’t let it pull you from the joys of the present; “Be here now,” as Ram Dass is famous for saying.

Recognize that what you may have inherited is only one aspect of you, and while it may hold some value for helping you to build your own personal legacy, you are so much more than your past and from where you came. We may see during this time that we don’t have to carry on the beliefs and narratives inherited from our families but rather can live into what we know and feel to be ways to act that are more responsible to building everlasting societal structures that honor and nurture others (as well as ourselves).

As you know, this Lunar Eclipse is connected to an important day for the United States, as it’s Independence Day. (In all time zones in the U.S., except for Eastern Daylight Time, the Eclipse occurs on July 4; in the east coast, it occurs just after midnight on July 5.) As Lunar Eclipses often bring things to light, perhaps it may accord with greater illumination arising regarding the foundations of this country’s principles, the strength of the constitution upon which it was built, and whether the U.S. truly provides freedom and independence for all who live here. Given that we’re also living in a time of the U.S.’s Pluto Return, this Eclipse on Independence Day may feel even more striking. This Pluto Return is a many year period during which Pluto will return to the same place it was at the time of the formation of the U.S., marked by the signing of the Declaration of Independence; it’s aligning with a time in which the shadow of the country is revealed and we’re collectively dealing with issues of power and control and breakdowns of that which has no integral core, all the while seeing whether the inherent principles of the nation have a strong constitution or not. That this Lunar Eclipse is occurring now during this period feels like it may be a pinpoint of light that gives us more awareness as to these larger underlying issues that we are moving through as a society.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 14 degrees of Cancer (Sun) and Capricorn (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Cancer, Capricorn, or the other cardinal signs—Aries and Libra—it may impact you more intensely.

Capricorn Lunar Eclipse Flower Essence Suggestion

Honeysuckle flower essence: Sometimes the past seems to have a pincer grip on us, just like the claws of a crab, the symbol for Cancer. When this happens, it can lead to a reduction in vitality, disturbing our ability to maintain the sense of presence required to fully participate in the present. If you need some energetic assistance releasing the shrouds of wistfulness and making peace with the past, consider trying Honeysuckle flower essence. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is exact at 12:30 am on July 5 EDT
