Pisces Solar Eclipse
March 8, 2016 (exact at 5:54 pm PST)
Today’s New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse. Even if we can’t see an Eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives. Oftentimes, life-changing events or reflections occur around the time of an Eclipse.
A Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. When this celestial event occurs in Pisces what we can initiate are the ways in which we can dive into our well of compassion, our artistic nature, and our knowingness that we are a reflection of and connected to everything. We may open into that Piscean space where boundaries disappear and empathy flows.
During this time, not only may our nighttime dreams be more vivid but so may our daydreams, both serving as vessels for creative delight, personal and collective reintegration, and healing awareness. If we find ourselves wandering in our minds, it would be of benefit to not discount the ideas, thoughts, and images that come through to us. During this Pisces New Moon, the veil to our subconscious may be thinner and therefore we may be able to better access its jewels of wisdom.
The Pisces New Moon inspires us to connect in with the well of compassion that resides within each of us. As we dive into our empathetic hearts, it’s important to remember that giving of ourselves doesn’t need to equal giving away of ourselves. It’s one thing to hold space for another and desire to foster their enhanced joy, and another to let go of our needs and sacrifice ourselves in that pursuit.
Pisces represents the numinous and the place where we dive into the soulful remembrance that we are love and love runs through us. The last sign of the zodiac, Pisces is the realm of water, the wellspring of emotions, and the invisible appearing more visible.
During this time we may be able to gain more insights and awareness as to the illusions and projections we carry and/or the disillusion that they inspire within us. We can turn to the space within where our hopes and longings reside and see not only what they are but also how they steer our orientation. For example, do they serve as a joy-invoked fount of creative inspiration? And/or are we awash in feeling that our personal life doesn’t match up to our idealized visions, with this notion being at the root of not only our sorrow, but potentially also addictive behaviors and escape mechanisms that we use to blunt painful emotions? This Pisces Solar Eclipse can be a great time to not only relate with this side of ourselves but also to see how we may be able to let go of patterns that keep us off the mat of life, seeking assistance from compassionate others, and healing ourselves on a very deep level.
Given the tie-in of Chiron during this Solar Eclipse, being especially tender with our selves feels important as we may connect with deeply etched sorrows; if we can tune into those and see how we can channel them in service of our—and possibly others’—healing, we may find that this time offers even more potent opportunities for growth. Reflective of that, it may be that not only are we being called by the siren’s song of giving birth to deeply soulful healing, divine connection, the magic of our imagination, being moved/touched/inspired by the whispers of beauty all around us, and the love that is both our birthright and the stream that weaves through us all.
What’s also so seemingly profound about this particular Pisces Solar Eclipse is the role that Jupiter plays. The traditional ruler of Pisces, Jupiter connects us to a sense of growth, expansion, learning, and opportunity. We’re called by the Sun and Moon to let go, have faith to let spirit and inspiration stream through us, soften our edges, and see where blurriness may serve us. Yet, Jupiter in Virgo opposing the Pisces Sun and Moon (and Chiron) reminds us of the opportunities for paying attention to the details, to honoring craft, for being precise.
How to be discerning when you’re awash in a sea of emotions and compassion? Consider how measuring and being particular can be of benefit when streaming in the seas of empathy, imagination, and artistry. They needn’t be exclusive; for example, dreams (Pisces) may be inspirational, yet they may have additional way-finding benefit if we attend to a routine (Virgo) of recalling them every morning and writing them in a journal.
This month’s New Moon falls at 19 degrees of Pisces (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Pisces or the other mutable signs—Gemini, Virgo, or Sagittarius—it may impact you more intensely.

Dream journal: If you don’t already do so, keep a notebook by your bed. When you wake up, jot down any threads of your dream that you remember.
