Scorpio New Moon: Surveying Your Desires
November 18, 2017: Scorpio New Moon
New Moons signify a time for beginnings. When this celestial event occurs in Scorpio what we can initiate are the ways in which we can connect more deeply to our essential nature, finding the inherent resources that may reside in the inner sanctum of our hearts and minds. Scorpio represents that which is hidden, the unseen, the things that are kept in the dark, including our deepest emotions. When you say or feel “I don’t want to go there” what you are likely alluding to is often at least partially the realm of Scorpio.
During a Scorpio New Moon, subjects considered to be taboo may rise to the surface. If your natural reflex is to turn a blind eye to these, allow yourself to contemplate them for a moment, even if at a distance. You may end up finding them a great source of learning; just understanding why it is that they cause aversion itself is a powerful lesson.
Delve into the recesses of your heart and mind and see where any stickiness resides, asking yourself questions such as:
* What am I really afraid of?
* What do I really desire?
* What parts of myself or arenas of my life do I instinctively avoid?
Speaking of desires, do an inner survey and see which ones you may have cast aside for fear of owning the full extent of your passion, and your power. Consider how you can own and stand for them, and integrate them into the weave of your life so that you can feel more complete and whole, and enlivened.
If a Scorpio New Moon can feel even more Scorpionic, it may this year. That’s because the day after the New Moon there’s a Mars/Pluto Square.
Why is this more Scorpionic? Because both Mars and Pluto are the planetary rulers of Scorpio, and so we may feel even more mired in emotions that feel intense, situations that reveal our hidden motivations, or experiences that are having us tap into our desires.
It may be a bit stormy, so watch for surges or explosions coming from others or the environment. If you feel a greater level of volcanic energy than you’re used to, go inward and see what’s coming up to the surface for you, to see if there are any emotions, motivations, desires, and urges that want to be given voice and come to light. And if your Spidey senses tell you that a situation or a person isn’t safe, even if everyone seems to think everything’s ok based upon what they perceive on the surface, trust yourself.
Communication with others is often tricky territory during deep Scorpio times as we don’t necessarily trust that our secrets—the essential keys of who we are—are safe with just anyone. And while this is a gorgeous time for inner diving, if you feel that you’re gravitating towards walling yourself off and know inherently that’s really not the direction you want to go, see how you can step out of that pattern. Call up that trusted friend, make a date with your sibling who knows you so well, and/or schedule an additional session with your counselor. It’s a great time to explore our depths and sometimes sharing that with another is not only really comforting but can also forge a whole other level of connection within the relationship.
This month’s New Moon falls at 27 degrees of Scorpio (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Scorpio or the other fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.
SCORPIO NEW MOON APOTHECARY SUGGESTIONS
Scorpio is associated with the genitals, reproductive system, urinary tract, and large intestines. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.
Pink Monkeyflower flower essence: As the Scorpio energy allows us to probe deeply, this New Moon can be an auspicious time to go within and find the aspects of ourselves that we have been hiding, likely because of fear of being vulnerable or concern that if we show who we truly are we may be abandoned. This emotional armoring—usually accompanied by an inherited sense of shame—keeps us from sharing ourselves truly with others (and sometimes even with ourselves) and restricts us from living more freely. Pink Monkeyflower flower essence can help fortify our hearts, assisting us in taking emotional risks so that we can let ourselves more fluidly flow through. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)
Helichrysum essential oil: During the Scorpio New Moon—a time of rebirth and revival—it’s good to know about helichrysum essential oil, itself known for its regenerative properties. Also known as everlasting and immortelle, helichrysum is a favorite when the skin needs assistance in healing scars and wounds. Its regenerative properties may also be experienced on an emotional level, as many find that it helps to release repressed feelings while catalyzing greater self-compassion.
