A Saturn in Aquarius Preview?

While Saturn doesn't go into Aquarius until March 21, many of the current impacts of the coronavirus epidemic and concurrent public health recommendations seem to reflect the signatures of this upcoming astrological cycle, having me wonder if they won’t but continue to increase as time unfolds.

Remember that Saturn is the taskmaster, gives structure, and identifies weak links. Aquarius is the sign associated with altruism, collectives, and technology, among other things.

The things that I've seen that have me say this include:

  • The recommendation for "social distancing"—no handshaking, staying six feet away from people who are coughing or sneezing, and avoiding crowds.

  • The reliance on technology for continuing daily activities: companies and universities (notably here in Washington state where I live) have been telling workers to stay home and telecommute while schools are cancelling on-campus classes, opting to offer them online instead.

  • The notion that taking precautions is not just for your health but is a civic duty for the health of your community and the world, owing to how the virus spreads.

  • The restriction of large gatherings: the cancellations of concerts, shows etc. For example South By Southwest, the yearly gathering in Austin, Texas, has been cancelled and the annual Comic Con that was slated for last weekend in Seattle was postponed until this summer. France has banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people, Serie A soccer games in Italy are being played in empty spectator-free stadiums…the list goes on and on.

  • People coming together to support small businesses--including local shops and restaurants--who may be hard hit because people are not venturing out much. The focus of how we're all in this together and need to support each other. My Instagram feed is filled with a great level of outpouring to support the community.

All this without Saturn even being yet in *Aquarius.

I can’t help but wonder how this will continue to unfold. One thing that does feel really strong, and which i’ve been thinking about for the last while, is how it really will be a time when we’ll recognize the inherent power of the people, and how strength comes about when we band together with our neighbors (near and far) to support one another and our common vision and values.

* Saturn will enter Aquarius on March 21 and reside there until July 1, when it will re-enter Capricorn for a spell. It will then go back into Aquarius on December 16, shortly before it meets up with Jupiter on December 21 (the Great Conjunction), staying in this group-minded and progressive sign until March 7, 2023.
