Virgo Solar Eclipse

Virgo Solar Eclipse: September 1, 2016

This month’s New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse. Even if we can’t see an Eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

Oftentimes, life-changing events or reflections occur around the time of an Eclipse. Yet, remember that reflective of the word itself, things are often ‘eclipsed’ around the time of Eclipses. As such, you may find yourself feeling like there is a sea change in your life, that seeds are being planted, yet not clear what it will be that will bear fruit. That clarity may become greater when weeks and months pass; and so if you’re not yet clear what it is that is being given form, that may be just as it should be.

A Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. When this celestial event occurs in Virgo we can initiate new pathways in our lives to craft systems that allow us to live from a place of greater refinement and organization. As Virgo is dedicated to helping and healing, we could also find that what is being initiated is a deeper level of understanding as to how we can be of service to others.

Be attentive and clear as you calculate your aims. Yet, also be careful about a tendency towards hyper-criticality. When Virgo energy is strong, we have a tendency to hold things to very high standards. While this can be an asset, we just have to be careful that it doesn’t sway into the realm of hyper-judgment that is not only unproductive but also unhealthy. Remember that while the act of perfecting may be laudable, perfection itself doesn’t exist and so we shouldn’t compare ourselves and/or others to that illusive goal.

This Eclipse ties into the Saturn/Neptune square and with this it seems as if what may be arising is connected to the dreams that we've been focusing on making manifest over the past year. It may reflect in your vision moving forward, with what is being generated having to do with giving shape and form to what you've found to really move your heart and soul. Additionally, if this Saturn/Neptune year has had you needing to release things and let them go out to sea, this Eclipse time may be further ushering in a conscious letting go; this may in turn free your energy so that it is not dissipated by being focused upon activities, habits, and/or beliefs that don't serve your spirit,  and can return to investing in those that do.

Yet, things may still feel blurry. Saturn/Neptune reflects a sense of fogginess and waviness and as noted above, things are eclipsed during Eclipse times. Yet, instead of seeing blurriness as an obstacle, see if there's a way to wade in it. When we accept what seems like unclarity and patiently float with it, oftentimes it yields a greater sense of clarity when we reach the shore than if we never let ourselves be with the waves.

This Solar Eclipse New Moon falls at 10 degrees of Virgo (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Virgo or the other mutable signs—Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces—it may impact you more intensely.

Virgo Solar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Virgo rules the small intestines and digestive system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Beech flower essence: When Virgo energy is strong so may also be a sense of criticality. We strive for perfection, holding ourselves to task for the smallest of things. Judgment of others may also be heightened as we could find ourselves enmeshed in a sense of intolerance of what we perceive to be others’ shortcomings (perhaps even projecting out our frustrations with ourselves onto others). If you are looking for an elixir to help inspire within you more warmth and acceptance, expanding the space of tolerance and an ability to see the good within yourself/others and a variety of situations, consider Beech flower essence. Beech also connects with heightened Virgo energy another way, as it’s a remedy that is considered to inspire better digestion—physically and emotionally. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Melissa (lemon balm): Melissa essential oil is a fragrant way to relax and dispel anxiety. Use some in a bath or unscented body lotion. Make a melissa-scented calming room spray by adding a few drops to a mister bottle filled with water. Melissa also has mind-focusing qualities, which can be very helpful during this time. Its calming may also relieve the stress and tension that could otherwise show up and be felt in the Virgo-ruled digestive system. Check the labels carefully and buy a high quality product as less expensive melissa oils are sometimes adulterated with citronella or lemongrass.
