About every year, the planet Jupiter shifts into a new sign.

Since September 9 of 2016, it’s been in Libra, the sign that inspires us to try to find balance. Jupiter holds expansive energy and reflective of this we may find ourselves collectively paying more attention to and finding growth through areas of life governed by the sign that it is in. As such, with Jupiter in Libra, themes such as beauty, art, relationships, marriage, law, diplomacy, and our views on what is just and unjust may have captured our collective attention.

Jupiter will be in Libra until October 10 of 2017, when it dives into Scorpio. It will reside in this sign until November 8, 2018. The last time Jupiter was in Scorpio was October 22, 2005 through November 22, 2006.

Let’s focus in on Jupiter in Scorpio and explore what 12 things that it may have us focusing upon. These may bethe arenas through which we collectively pay more attention as well as those through which we find more personal growth. They include:

Emotions

We will likely find ourselves opening up to our emotions more, realizing that rather than them being scary terrain, that they hold the key to powerfully navigating our lives.

Sexuality

We may want to dive more into this realm of our lives for pleasure and/or healing, and we may also see our attention turned to collective issues such as pornography, sex-trafficking, infidelity, et al.

Desires

Related but not limited to sexuality, we may find ourselves drawn to acknowledging and carving out space to express our desires and the things that turn us on.

Mysteries

Diving into the mysterious could run the gamut from being more captivated by suspense novels/films and/or orienting to the mysterious and occult.

Shadows

Shadows may hold greater import and we may further see our dark side and underbelly—the parts of ourselves we don’t acknowledge (for example, jealousy personally or racism collectively).

Secrets + Spying

Whether the secrets we hide from ourselves or others, or those that companies and governments hide from society, our attention may turn to what’s not being openly shared as well as the arena of surveillance.

Hidden Places

This may include anything from our unconscious (both individual and collective) to prisons to bank vaults to archeological sites holding the possibility of great discoveries.

Bulls**t

Scorpio rules the dark and dirty including BS, both literally and the BS of lies that people tell themselves, of which we may have more awareness (and perhaps less patience for) when Jupiter is in this sign.

The Large Intestines

Scorpio rules the large intestines and elimination system in wellness astrology; we may see even more evidence of how the health of our intestinal microbiome is key to overall well-being.

Death

A sign related to the cycles of life, Scorpio reminds of the inevitability of death and perhaps through more conversations about this inevitable event, we can find greater healing in our lives.

All-or-Nothing Perspectives

Scorpio is intense, and not necessarily the sign you’d think of when you think "moderation"; as such, we may see people going to extremes, reflections of committed endurance, obsessions, or strong prounouncements of acting from a force of will and dedication.

Things that Sting

With the Scorpion known for its sting, and Scorpio often known for this defensive action, things that sting—even those that do so therapeutically—may be something upon which we are focused.

Concluding Thoughts

As you probably see through what I’ve shared, the next year may not be the most light and airy time. (That said, it really hasn’t been any way for a while.) Yet perhaps with Jupiter in Scorpio, we can use this orientation towards developing greater emotional honesty and depth, a commitment to honor our desires, an urge for living more holistically, owning our personal and collective shadows, and uncovering and giving light to that which we turn a blind eye…and have it lead us to a greater level of healing, individually and collectively. This is what we can hope for and set our sites upon, using the Scorpio intensity to commit to bringing this about, in doing the hard, yet exceptionally enriching, work that it may take.
