Jupiter in Capricorn: December 2, 2019 - December 19, 2020
Jupiter enters Capricorn on December 2, 2019. It will reside here until December 19, 2020, when it enters Aquarius.
What may Jupiter’s year-long journey in Capricorn yield?
The spheres of life that relate to Capricorn are not strangers to us. After all, transformative Pluto has been in this sign since 2008, upending the previously accepted ways in such Capricorn-oriented dominions such as societal establishments, government, financial markets, the patriarchy, and the like.
We’ve been collectively paying further attention to this province since December 2017 when follow-the-rules Saturn entered this sign. And how could we not? After all, not only is Saturn strong in Capricorn, the sign it rules, but the taskmaster planet brings our attention to all that is broken or without foundation or integrity in the zone in which its traveling. What are the limits of authority? What does the rule of law say? Do institutions actually have the foundation and integrity that they claim? Hello, Saturn in Capricorn.
And now Jupiter will reside there, in this sign of productivity and proficiency, efficacy and efficiency.
To understand what this may yield, let’s reflect upon Jupiter. The largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter’s archetype relates to expansion and growth. It inspires exploration and wisdom. Our attention is drawn to wherever Jupiter resides since it seems as if that arena is magnified and augmented. It’s also the canvas through which we can learn and discover greater possibilities.
As such, Jupiter in Capricorn may have us feel more inspired to do the Capricorn work: to take our time, to survey foundations to fortify them, to look at things through the lens of efficiency, to take ownership of what it means to have integrity, to establish solid structures. Of course, there was the drive towards these things since Pluto and Saturn have been in this sign, but with Jupiter there we may also tap into a greater desire to address them and a greater confidence that we can design a plan to achieve our mission. Jupiter may infuse us with the sense that it’s not just our obligation to do so but that we can really grow and profit by doing so.
It feels like our interest in everything in the Capricorn realm—financial institutions, government structures, societal rules of engagement, business dealings, the role/s taken on by fathers, how authority is defined, our relationship with time, the architecture of structures, et al.—is about to be expanded. We can’t not but pay attention to them, as well as other Capricorn themes. For example, in wellness astrology Capricorn rules the bones and musculoskeletal system, the skin, and the knees. Look for collective themes and news to appear in these realms (and take special care of these parts of your body as well).
There is one more Capricorn domain that is of inherent importance that requires our focus and attention.
And that is the Earth.
With three planets in the earthy, no-nonsense sign of Capricorn, the one that reminds you that you can’t make things up out of thin air, we may become even more familiar with the natural limits of our home. Capricorn reminds us of the necessity for being accountable, and with this, we may find ourselves immersed in having or observing conversations about our role in the current state of the climate breakdown.
Thanks to Jupiter in Capricorn, we may find that we can’t avoid looking at the facts, and yet within that may come the Jupiterian sense of freedom, that which arises with assuming responsibility and doing the work required to have things become more sustainable. I think that as much as our attention on the climate crisis has skyrocketed in 2019 that with Jupiter in Capricorn it may become even more exponentially so. After all, this sign won’t let us avoid reality: and with its encouragement to take stock of what’s real and believe in the value of hard work, we may be able to make efforts that allow us to shift things for the better.
OK, in pure Capricorn form, I could lumber through this important subject and spend much time writing about it. But I won’t right now (i’m sure I will return to it over the year owing to its prominence).
it’s not because I don’t want to have things feel too sober (itself very Capricorn) but rather I want to be practical (also very Capricorn) and conserve energy (hello again, Capricorn) since this sign reminds us that progress is a slow path, not something one and done.
I think one of the ways for all of us to orient to this coming year is to see what we need to do to be able to support our endurance, what it takes for us to go the extra mile (in any area of our life), because we will find great value in doing so.
The last thing I want to leave you with is this: With Jupiter entering Capricorn, on the horizon we have its conjunction with Pluto, which colors the kairos all year, with the exact unions of these two planets being April 4, June 30, and November 12. Jupiter will also unite with Saturn, but not until December 21 of next year, which will take place in the sign of Aquarius.
More on all of this as time unfolds.
