It’s a week complete with significant celestial invitations.

It begins with a Solar Eclipse, in the far-reaching, discovery-oriented sign of Sagittarius. There’s a sense that things are changing and that a new chapter is being ushered in. There’s a focus upon what we believe in, how we can corral our faith, and what we need to do to embark upon a journey towards a destination that’s somewhat off in the distance. Consider just what it is that you want to explore and ways to broaden the reach of any message that you want to offer others. All the while remember that since it’s an Eclipse, just what this looks like and where it will lead you may still seem obscured.

At the same time, with Chiron in Aries stationing direct, we may find ourselves face-to-face with our issues related to the way we use our willpower to champion for what we desire. Be as conscious as possible when it comes to the way you do anger, so that you can use the force of upset and frustration as constructively as possible, sidestepping temptations to sacrifice the long-term with short-term outbursts. (For more on exploring anger, check out our So Divine! podcast from October 17 in which this was a theme as well as this one about healing, from November 19 in which healer Josephine Edmonson talked about the work of Lama Rod Owens and being in relationship with your anger).

And while all of this may bring a sense of movement and inspiration to the surface, it’s not the only reason that many have had this week on their calendar for a very, very long time. That has to do with two planets—Jupiter and Saturn—both about to shift positions and join together to herald a new societal chapter.

And with that it—with Jupiter and Saturn about to end their foray in Capricorn and move into Aquarius this week—it feels like we’re about to have a changing of the guards.

The first three weeks of this month have been focused on Capricorn clean-up time, taking stock of the realms ruled by this sign. Likely we've found ourselves captured by such topics as the rule of law, the structural integrity of institutional systems, how businesses define their bottom line, and both the virtues and the ills of conservatism. In our own lives, it may have seemed that we've also be focused upon inventorying how our relationship to hard work, patience, loyalty, and endurance has shifted over the last years. Additionally, looking to see how we may have changed the ways in which we invest our resources (not just money, but also time and attention) as well as our relationship to structures born out of patriarchal lineages may have also been a reflection that has born valuable insights.

Both planets leave Capricorn for Aquarius this week: Saturn on December 17 and Jupiter on December 19. Shortly after, on December 21 (the Solstice nonetheless), they meet up for a once-every-twentyish-year union. This alignment is called the Great Conjunction owing to these two being the planets farthest out that the eye can see unaided, and therefore the ones whose cycles were relied upon for eons of time.

With the planet of growth and possibilities (Jupiter) uniting with the planet of practical reality (Saturn), the Great Conjunction is thought to mark the ushering in of a new shared societal chapter. Given that this upcoming one occurs in Aquarius, it reflects a growing affinity for the power of groups, the role of science and technology, and a galvanized interest in humanitarian and altruistic activities, to name just a few.

Remember though that these events—whether Saturn moving into Aquarius, or Jupiter doing so, or their exact meet-up there—may happen in a moment that their invitations carry forth for a while. Jupiter will be in Aquarius all next year (except for May 13 – July 28 when it dips into Pisces for a swell) and Saturn will be there until March 7, 2023. And the Great Conjunction is thought to be a marker that ushers in a twenty-year cultural shift.

That said, that’s not to diminish the significance of the events this and next week, and our ability to connect to awareness related to the new beginnings (including our own changing of the guard, if you will) that are on the horizon and starting to come within sight.

May these weeks allow you to tap into a vision of the potential of new possibilities emerging.
