Stellar Insights: December 28, 2020 - January 3, 2021
This week we bid goodbye/adieu/adios/arrivederci/etc. to 2020. (Actually, given what a year it’s been it’s more likely we’re going to say “Good riddance and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”)
It’s been a year of….radical transformation; breakdowns and some breakthroughs; structures that couldn’t hold under pressure and those we realize now may have never been able to given their initial design; revealing collective ugliness and also highlighting the beauty and grace that live deep within so many; immense suffering, sacrifice, fear, anger, and rage; the discovery of simple pleasures of things once taken for granted; redefining stability; mustering the patience to play the long game; being adaptable and pivoting on a dime; having our endurance tested, shaped, and defined in ways unimaginable; mustering a deeper sense of resourcefulness, and deep-diving into our hearts and minds to further understand just what it is that is essential to us in life.
Even if it’s just a transition moment crafted by a calendar, there’s something psychologically liberating about turning the page on 2020 to a new year, in welcoming 2021. And while we can begin to feel that things will be different, of course we still all know that it’s not that a magic eraser wipes the chalkboard of our collective and individual life clean at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day.
Yet, even if it’s just an artificial marker, the transitioning from December 31 to January 1, it still brings with it a sense of new beginnings, horizons, and possibilities. And I think that given what we’ve all been through, finding a glimmer of hope in that, something to lift our spirits so we can even more clearly remember that there are certain things in our control—that we can take our passions and have them move us, that we can speak and act against what we believe to be unjust, that we can embrace others with love and compassion—has validity. And we can bring that into 2021, along with everything else that has transformed us so radically.
This next year will be different: instead of the Saturn/Pluto Conjunction and Jupiter/Pluto Conjunction that marked 2020, it’s the Saturn/Uranus Square that will inform the collective. That brings with it its own unique set of opportunities (an urge to be innovative, change things up, and seek freedom) and challenges (the need to stay bouncy and be adaptive in the face of unexpected situations arising out of others innovating, changing things up, and seeking freedom). I won’t go into the details of this here, but know that I’ll be sharing about it as we traverse 2021 (and if you want a crash course into what the year may bring, check out my new online course My Stellar Year).
Yet, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. As Ram Dass has said “Be here now.”
Right here, right now, right this week, we have a Full Moon. It feels really fitting to have a Cancer Full Moon during this particular transitional week. With the Moon in Cancer and the Sun in Capricorn, we’re tuned in to our duties and responsibilities, to our family, home, careers, and the role we play in the world around us.
We may feel extra sensitive and experience a heightened need to feel safe, secure, and taken care of. At the same time, we may perceive that this conflicts with a desire to be a bedrock of strength for others. As such, it’s important to remember to own and express our feelings and that stating our needs is not a reflection of weakness but of internal strength.
As we embrace the end of this year and open to a new one, take heed of the Full Moon’s invitation to rest and nest, and take care of yourself—and those you love and cherish—on a foundational, emotional level.
It’s been my honor and pleasure again this year to be in connection and community with you. May this week bring you sweetness and renewal, a sense of hope and the ability to share your love with your loved ones and to feel embraced by the love that they have for you.
